Law enforcement agencies in Poland and Ukraine joined forces in a cross-border operation, leading to the dismantling of several major drug production sites and the seizure of nearly 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. Europol described it as the largest synthetic opioid production laboratory ever found in Poland, specifically used for producing crystal meth.
During the operation, 38 coordinated raids were conducted across the two countries, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals believed to be key members of a criminal network involved in the production and distribution of synthetic drugs. Additionally, authorities seized significant quantities of harmful substances and precursors used in drug production.
Law enforcement officers discovered 195 kg of crystal meth, as well as over 430 litres of reaction mixtures and various chemical solutions in different stages of drug production. They also confiscated large quantities of drug precursors essential for synthesizing opioids and cathinones.
The network was illegally producing methadone in a highly concentrated crystalline form, posing severe risks of overdose and death. Europol emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in combating organized drug crime and safeguarding citizens from the dangers posed by international drug trafficking.
In response to the rise in trafficking of these types of drugs, Europol issued an Early Warning Notification in 2023 to alert member states and partners. The successful operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating drug trafficking and protecting the health and safety of communities.
