Sergio Ferrer, 36, has been accused of murder and aggravated robbery in the death of Colorado dog breeder Paul Peavey, 57. Peavey and as many as 10 of his Doberman puppies disappeared from his property, leading to an investigation by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office. Ferrer was initially taken into custody on an unrelated warrant but was considered a person of interest in Peavey’s case. Peavey was found dead from a gunshot wound, and Ferrer has now been recommended for murder charges.
Peavey, who ran a breeding business specializing in European Dobermans, was last heard from on August 19 and his body was found five days later under a pile of sticks and stones. As many as 10 puppies, all of which had been microchipped, were also missing and may have been sold through social media sites, according to the sheriff’s office.
The motive for the killing has not been disclosed, and it is unclear if Ferrer has legal representation. The case has shocked the community and raised concerns about the safety of breeders and their animals. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the missing puppies and gather more evidence in the case.
