A military operation conducted by the U.S. in Iraq resulted in the deaths of at least 15 Islamic State fighters, including some in leadership positions. The operation took place in Anbar, western Iraq, with six U.S. soldiers sustaining injuries, none of which were life-threatening. Some soldiers suffered possible traumatic brain injuries, while others had external injuries. The ISIS operatives were armed with weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts. The operation was aimed at disrupting and degrading ISIS’ ability to plan and carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners in the region and beyond. The partnered raid with Iraqi security forces was conducted early Thursday, with no civilian casualties reported. Iraqi Security Forces are continuing to exploit the locations raided.
