Convicted Moroccan terrorist expelled from Italy following knife attack in France

A 35-year-old Moroccan man known to police for a knife attack in France was deported from Italy on August 29th for crimes against people and property. The man, who had been under monitoring by the Counter-Terrorism Unit in France, was expelled with direct accompaniment to Casablanca, where he was handed over to Moroccan authorities. Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed the expulsion on social media.

The man had committed serious offences in Italy, including a robbery knife attack in Lucca in May that left three people injured, one with permanent facial deformations. He had previously carried out a knife attack in France and was under constant monitoring by investigators. Despite his appeal being rejected and his residence permit not being renewed, the man was deported with police accompaniment to the border.

This is not the first time Italian authorities have deported individuals to Morocco. In June, a cybercriminal named Idriss Farhane was sent back, and in 2020, a Moroccan imam was expelled for supporting the Islamic State group. Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese cited reasons of state security for deporting the imam. Italian authorities continue to take action against individuals who pose a threat to public safety and security.
