Rival hot dog eaters Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi compete in Labor Day eating challenge

Two competitive eating legends, Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, are set to face off in a live streaming event on Netflix on Labor Day. Chestnut, a 16-time champion, and Kobayashi, a six-time champion, will be competing against each other for the first time in 15 years. The event, titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” is highly anticipated and both eaters are expected to push each other to set new world records.

Chestnut was ruled ineligible for this year’s Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest after partnering with a plant-based rival, which disappointed his fans. Despite not feeling hungry and worrying about the damage to his body from years of competitive eating, Kobayashi decided to come out of retirement for this special one-day event to compete against Chestnut.

The two competitors last faced off in 2009, with Chestnut emerging as the victor by devouring 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. While Kobayashi helped popularize competitive eating in the early 2000s, he stopped competing in the Nathan’s contest in 2010 due to a contract dispute. Both eaters are excited for the upcoming showdown and are preparing to eat as many hot dogs as they can in ten minutes, with challenging rules including no dunking hot dogs in water or separating the wieners from the bread.

In addition to the main event, the special will include undercard events such as competitive eater Matt Stonie competing against Olympians in a chicken wing-eating contest, and British eater Leah Shutkever attempting to eat a record number of watermelons in three minutes.
