US seizes Nicolás Maduro’s aircraft and transports it to Florida

On Friday, US authorities seized a private jet owned by Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and flew it to Florida. The 90-passenger Airbus A319 was impounded at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The move was part of the US government’s efforts to put pressure on Maduro’s regime amidst allegations of corruption and human rights abuses.

Maduro, who has been in power since 2013, has faced increasing opposition from the US and other countries due to allegations of election fraud and human rights violations. The US has recognized opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela, further straining relations between the two countries.

The US Justice Department issued a statement confirming the seizure of the aircraft, citing violations of US money laundering laws. The statement did not provide specific details about the allegations against Maduro or the reasons for seizing the jet.

The plane, which is valued at around $50 million, was reportedly used by top Venezuelan officials and their families to travel to various destinations, including Russia and China. The aircraft is said to have been purchased by a Venezuelan state-owned oil company in 2011.

Maduro’s government has not yet responded to the seizure of the jet. The move is seen as a significant blow to Maduro and his administration, as it demonstrates the US government’s willingness to take action against alleged corruption and human rights abuses.

The seizure of Maduro’s jet comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Venezuela, with the US imposing sanctions on Venezuelan officials and entities linked to the Maduro regime. The US has also called for free and fair elections in Venezuela to restore democracy in the country.
