Protesters in Tel Aviv march with makeshift coffins, demanding release of Gaza hostages

Protesters in Tel Aviv march with makeshift coffins draped in Israeli flags, symbolizing loved ones still held captive by Hamas. They accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of hindering negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release by making new demands, particularly regarding control of the Philadelphi Corridor on Gaza’s border with Egypt.

A cousin of one of the hostages, Carmel Gat, who was recovered deceased by the Israeli military, blames Netanyahu for her death after 327 days of captivity in Gaza. Ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas have been slow, with the United States developing a new proposal to end the 11-month war.

Netanyahu’s demand for continued Israeli control of the Philadelphi Corridor has stalled negotiations, as Hamas insists on a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in the eventual truce deal. Families of hostages criticize Netanyahu for potentially undermining talks and sacrificing their loved ones.

The conflict has resulted in more than 40,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, including both combatants and civilians, while over 1,100 have died in Israel. Hamas abducted around 250 Israelis, with some being released and an estimated 70 still held captive in Gaza. The situation remains tense as efforts to reach a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages continue amidst political tensions and accusations.
