Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are pushing for Russia’s inclusion in future peace conferences to end the war in Ukraine. Scholz emphasized the need to resolve the conflict quickly, acknowledging the lack of progress following a previous conference in Switzerland where Russia did not participate. Despite facing political discontent over support for Ukraine, including funding and weapons, Scholz remains committed to diplomatic efforts with Russia.
At a recent meeting in Ramstein, Ukraine’s president urged attendees to accelerate the delivery of military hardware to the battlefield and requested permission to strike deeper targets within Russia. The US, UK, and Germany all pledged additional military aid packages to support Ukraine in the ongoing conflict. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the need to strengthen Ukraine’s position and protect its cities from Russian attacks.
Meanwhile, reports from the battlefield show ongoing fierce fighting near the town of Pokrovsk, with Russian forces claiming Ukrainian shelling in the village of Nikolskoe and subsequent drone interceptions. Despite evacuation efforts, over 20,000 residents remain in Pokrovsk, facing power outages due to recent air strikes on vital infrastructure. The situation underscores the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict and preventing further civilian casualties.
