Authorities in Kentucky are currently on a manhunt for Joseph A. Couch, who is considered armed and dangerous in connection with a mass shooting that injured five people. Couch is believed to have used an AR-15 rifle purchased legally at a local gun store to shoot at vehicles on Interstate 75 near a highway. The shooting was carried out from three different perches along a ridge and the suspect is believed to have acted alone.
The suspect’s motive remains unclear, but authorities have found a significant amount of ammunition in his possession. The search for Couch has been challenging due to the difficult terrain in the wooded area surrounding the shooting, which has forced law enforcement officials to approach cautiously. Despite finding the suspect’s rifle, authorities are concerned he may be armed with another weapon and have urged him to surrender peacefully.
The injured victims of the shooting, all Kentucky residents, are currently receiving medical treatment, with some sustaining serious injuries. The shooting, described as “sniper-like” by officials, was characterized as a random act and not a road rage incident. Authorities are coordinating with multiple agencies to plan a safe and successful apprehension of the suspect to prevent any further harm to the community.
