Tyreek Hill cited for careless driving during detainment commotion, Miami police officer identified and placed on leave

Miami-Dade County Police identified Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran, as the officer placed on administrative duty following the detainment of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill was pulled over for alleged careless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. The violations carry penalties of $179 and $129, respectively. The incident occurred on Sunday morning while Hill was driving a 2018 black McLaren. The Dolphins criticized the detainment, calling it “despicable behavior” and a misuse of power. Hill, who claims he was wearing his seatbelt before taking it off when pulled over, accused the police of overreacting. He also called team security officials during the traffic stop. The officer who issued the citations was “M. Batista” with badge No. 9771. The police bodycams and fans’ cell phones captured the moment when Hill was handcuffed and placed face down on the pavement. Internal affairs investigators are looking into the matter. An attorney for Torres was not available for comment. The Miami-Dade County Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
