The Bridge Fire in California grew significantly over 24 hours to become the state’s largest wildfire, destroying at least 33 homes and prompting evacuation orders. The Line Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest, which was allegedly sparked intentionally, resulted in the arrest of a man accused of arson. The Bridge Fire, which began in Angeles National Forest, jumped from 4,000 acres to 46,000 acres in a day, destroying homes in multiple areas. Despite the fire expanding from Los Angeles County into San Bernardino County, no deaths or major injuries have been reported.
In addition to the Bridge Fire, two other major fires, the Line Fire and the Airport Fire, have also been causing destruction in Southern California. The Line Fire has recently expanded to over 34,600 acres and is 14% contained, with a suspect arrested for intentionally starting the fire. The Airport Fire in Orange County, sparked accidentally by heavy equipment, had burned over 22,000 acres with 0% containment on Wednesday. Multiple structures have been damaged or destroyed in the affected areas.
Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency due to the fires and mobilized resources to fight multiple active wildfires across the region. In Nevada, the Davis Fire near Big Bear has also caused destruction, with extreme fire conditions anticipated due to high winds. Air quality alerts have been issued in Nevada due to wildfire smoke from the California fires. The weather has been trending cooler, but the risk of fires remains high.
