Former President Donald Trump has promised to eliminate taxes on overtime work if he is re-elected, in an effort to provide greater incentives for people to work and make it easier for businesses to hire. Trump made this pledge at a campaign event in Tucson, Arizona, where he emphasized the importance of supporting hard-working individuals such as police officers, nurses, and factory workers.
This proposal is part of a series of tax cuts that Trump has promised, including extending income tax cuts, eliminating taxes on tips in the service industry, and lowering the corporate tax rate. However, the details of how these tax cuts will be funded are not clear, and critics have raised concerns about the impact on the national debt, which is already at $35 trillion.
In contrast, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has outlined plans to lower taxes for working and middle-class Americans, including tax credits for first-time homebuyers and small businesses, as well as a child tax credit. Harris also plans to raise taxes on wealthier Americans by increasing the top rate of personal income tax and corporate tax rate.
The Harris campaign has criticized Trump’s tax proposals, accusing him of being “desperate” and looking out for himself and his billionaire friends. They warn that if Trump is re-elected, he will prioritize the interests of the wealthy and big corporations over the needs of working Americans.
