Small aircraft collision over California claims life of pilot

A pilot died after two single-engine planes, a Nanchang CJ-6 and a Yakovlev Yak-52, collided mid-air in Southern California. The incident occurred near Lancaster, in northern Los Angeles County, with only the two pilots on board the aircrafts at the time. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the report of downed planes, and one pilot was pronounced dead on arrival while the other reported no injuries. The planes, often used for aerobatics and hobby flights, landed in different locations in Lancaster. The Yak-52 is a Soviet-era plane owned by Fight’s On! LLC, while the Nanchang CJ-6 is a Chinese military aircraft from the 1960s used for basic training. The cause of the collision is unknown, and the FAA and NTSB will investigate the crash. Neither pilot has been identified. This tragic incident highlights the dangers that pilots face while flying these types of aircraft, and serves as a reminder of the importance of aviation safety.
