Israel has killed at least 558 people, including 50 children and 94 women, in air strikes in Lebanon since September 23, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Health. In response, Hezbollah launched missiles targeting Israeli airbases, leading to more Lebanese deaths in one day than at any time since the civil war. Civilians have been forced to flee southern and eastern Lebanon, with 89 temporary shelters set up to accommodate them.
Israel’s army claimed to have launched over 650 attacks on Hezbollah targets, while Hezbollah retaliated with over 200 rocket attacks, targeting Israeli airbases. This exchange of violence has resulted in numerous casualties on both sides. Lebanon is a small country with a population of about 5.4 million, facing intense conflict with Israel, with both sides engaging in cross-border attacks for almost a year.
Israel holds a significant arsenal of advanced missiles, including precision-guided ones from the United States, while also believed to possess nuclear weapons. To protect itself from incoming rockets, Israel utilizes three integrated air defense systems. On the other hand, Hezbollah is armed with an estimated 130,000 rockets, including various types with different ranges, capable of reaching southern Israel.
The situation in Lebanon remains volatile and extremely dangerous, as both Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate violence, causing significant loss of life and displacement of civilians. World leaders and the United Nations are calling for a de-escalation of the conflict to prevent further bloodshed and devastation in the region.
