Military Chief: Israel Ready to Launch Ground Assault in Lebanon, Amid Escalating Tensions | Latest Updates on Israel-Lebanon Conflict 2021

Israel is preparing for a possible ground assault in Lebanon, as the military chief announced the calling up of two brigades of reservists and continued airstrikes on Hezbollah targets. The army’s intention is to enter enemy territory and villages prepared as military outposts by Hezbollah. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to return displaced Israelis safely to their homes, stating that Hezbollah is being hit harder than expected.

Lebanon’s health minister reported 51 people were killed in the Israeli strikes, bringing the total death toll to 615, with over 2,000 wounded. Hezbollah fired missiles at Israel, including a longer-range projectile that reached the central area for the first time, causing air raid sirens. Tens of thousands of people have fled southern Lebanon to seek shelter in the north, causing an urgent need for blood donations and essential services.

World leaders, including US President Joe Biden, have expressed concerns about the potential for all-out war in the region. The US is leading a diplomatic effort to end hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon, linking the two conflicts for the first time. The escalation in tensions began after Israel’s military focus shifted to its northern frontier, resulting in deadly attacks on Hezbollah members and leaders.

The situation remains precarious, with ongoing violence and displacement on both fronts. The international community is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent further loss of life.
