Early this morning in downtown Los Angeles, one person was shot and killed on board a hijacked bus with passengers on board. Police took one suspect into custody unharmed after a standoff and a SWAT team arriving at the scene. The bus driver and another passenger were rescued after a police chase that lasted an hour and involved spike strips to halt the bus.
The identity of the victim who was shot has not been revealed, and one other victim was transported to the hospital. The driver, hailed as a hero by Deputy Chief Donald Graham, was unharmed and able to alert authorities through emergency protocols. LAPD confirmed that both the driver and the alleged hijacker did not require medical treatment after evaluation by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
