Former President Donald Trump recently called for the death penalty to be used against migrants who kill American citizens or law enforcement officers, making this declaration during campaign rallies in Reno, Nevada, and Aurora, Colorado. He has also advocated for using the death penalty against human and drug traffickers. Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has been ramping up as he aims to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, whom he has blamed for the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
Trump has painted noncitizens entering the U.S. as a threat to American safety and livelihood, using charged language during his rally in Aurora to describe the city as “invaded and conquered” by migrants who entered the country illegally. He accused Harris of allowing an “army of illegal alien gang members and migrant criminals” from the third world to destroy cities like Aurora.
Despite Trump’s claims, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman refuted the narrative, stating that it was not accurate. Trump has made similar unfounded claims linking immigrants to violence in various states, including spreading false information about Haitian immigrants in Ohio during a presidential debate. Local officials denied the allegations made by Trump. The former president’s rhetoric continues to stoke fear and division surrounding immigration issues in the United States.
