The Dodgers are on the brink of making history against the Mets, three scoreless outs away

Heading into Game 2 of the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers are on the verge of setting an MLB record for most consecutive scoreless innings. They have pitched 33 straight scoreless innings, tying a record set by the 1966 Baltimore Orioles. One more scoreless inning would give them the record. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts credited the players, coaches, and front office for the team’s success in preventing runs.

After a shaky start in the NLDS, the Dodgers bullpen has been lights out, throwing shutout innings in the last three games. They shut out the Padres in the final two games of the series and continued the streak against the Mets in Game 1 of the NLCS. The streak includes a perfect game spanning from the NLDS to the NLCS Game 1, where they retired 28 straight batters.

This impressive pitching performance has stifled two of the top offenses from the regular season, the Padres and the Mets. Despite injuries to key pitchers like Tyler Glasnow, Gavin Stone, Clayton Kershaw, and Joe Kelly, the Dodgers have managed to maintain their dominance on the mound. Even with Shohei Ohtani recovering from Tommy John surgery and unavailable as a pitcher, the Dodgers’ pitching staff has stepped up to silence opposing hitters. Their ability to prevent runs has been a key factor in the team’s success in the postseason.
