US warns that aid to Israel could be decreased if humanitarian aid to Gaza is not increased

In a strong warning to Israel, the US has threatened to cut military assistance if humanitarian aid access to Gaza is not increased within 30 days. US officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, citing Israel’s denial or hindrance of nearly 90% of humanitarian aid shipments last month. The letter also highlighted the high risk of lethal contagion faced by nearly two million people in Gaza due to evacuation orders and Israeli strikes.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians, with Israeli strikes killing at least 15 people, including children and women. Criticism of Israel has intensified globally, especially after Israeli forces launched a ground invasion of Lebanon to target Hezbollah bases. International condemnation followed Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers, with calls for the protection of UNIFIL personnel.

German Foreign Chancellor Annalena Baerbock emphasized the need to protect UNIFIL while acknowledging Israel’s right to self-defense and the necessity to eliminate Hezbollah locations. In response, Hezbollah’s acting leader declared intentions to target Israeli cities such as Haifa and Tel Aviv. Sheikh Naim Kassem, Hezbollah’s deputy chief, vowed to drive out enemies and defend Lebanese territory. The escalating tensions and threats from both sides have raised concerns about the possibility of further violence in the region.
