In a recent Fox News town hall, former President Donald Trump stated that if elected, he would immediately ban all sanctuary cities through the use of an executive order, citing a two-century-old law. Trump mentioned using the Aliens Act of 1798 to move individuals out of these cities and enforce his hardline immigration policies. Despite a previous attempt during his presidency to cut funding for non-cooperating cities being struck down by courts, Trump remains committed to this approach as a central theme of his campaign.
Furthermore, Trump claimed to support IVF care and called himself the “father of IVF,” emphasizing the Republican party’s endorsement of the fertility treatment. However, his statement comes amidst ongoing disputes over federal legislation guaranteeing access to IVF, which has faced resistance in the Senate.
In response to Trump’s comments during the town hall, Vice President Kamala Harris criticized his actions towards women’s reproductive rights and families, calling his remarks on IVF “quite bizarre.” Additionally, Harris labeled Trump as a “fascist” in a recent interview, portraying him as a potential autocrat with authoritarian tendencies if re-elected.
On another front, special counsel Jack Smith argued that Trump holds responsibility for the January 6 Capitol attack in a new filing, seeking to progress his prosecution in the election subversion case despite previous immunity rulings. The filing alleges Trump willfully caused his supporters to obstruct the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory, tying his actions on January 6 directly to efforts to corruptly obstruct the proceedings.
