Former One Direction member Liam Payne, 31, died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police responded to reports of an aggressive individual possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Payne was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the incident.
Payne, along with his bandmates, gained fame after appearing on The X Factor in 2010. One Direction went on to become one of the most successful boy bands in history, producing hits like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life”. After disbanding in 2016, Payne pursued a solo career and released the album LP1 in 2019.
The singer, who leaves behind a seven-year-old son with his former girlfriend Cheryl Cole, had posted on Snapchat hours before his death, expressing joy at his time in Argentina and excitement to return home. His most recent release was a single titled “Teardrops” in March.
Fans and fellow musicians mourn the loss of Payne, who was in Buenos Aires to attend a concert featuring his former bandmate Niall Horan. The tragic death of the talented performer has left many in the music industry and beyond shocked and saddened.
