Man sentenced to 45 years for fentanyl trafficking from NYC daycare, resulting in toddler’s death

Felix Herrera Garcia, a New York man, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for trafficking fentanyl out of a daycare in the Bronx where a toddler died and three others were poisoned. Garcia, along with his wife and two others, were charged with operating a “fentanyl mill” at the daycare, resulting in the death of a 22-month-old boy and poisoning two other children. A criminal complaint revealed that more than 11 kilograms of fentanyl were stored in secret compartments in the playroom where the children spent their time. Surviving children had to be treated with the overdose reversal drug naloxone. Garcia fled to Mexico but was captured and extradited back to the United States. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated that Garcia recklessly endangered the lives of babies by exposing them to fentanyl. The case highlights the dangers of the fentanyl epidemic and the severe consequences for those who put children at risk with narcotics activities. The prosecution emphasized the commitment to bringing to justice anyone who harms or endangers children with their drug trafficking activities.
