Retired Judge Gregory Weeks has petitioned the North Carolina parole commission for the release of Daniel Green, who was convicted of the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan. Green and his co-defendant, Larry Demery, were both 18 years old at the time of the fatal shooting, which occurred during a botched robbery. Details of Weeks’ petition are confidential, but he has stated his belief in Green’s release. James Jordan was found dead in a South Carolina swamp days after the murder, and Green was convicted of murder during the commission of a robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Demery testified that Green shot and killed James Jordan, while Demery himself pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both men received life sentences for their roles in the crime. Green has maintained his innocence regarding the actual killing but admitted to helping dispose of the body. Michael Jordan has not commented on Weeks’ petition. The parole commission’s decision on Green’s release remains pending.
