The US military has conducted a precision strike using B-2 stealth bombers on Houthi weapons storage facilities in Yemen, according to Pentagon reports. These strikes targeted five underground storage locations in Houthi-controlled areas, showcasing the US military’s ability to reach deeply buried and fortified targets.
The Houthis, an Iran-backed group that seized power in Yemen a decade ago, have been engaging in constant attacks on commercial shipping and Navy assets in the region. In response, the US used B-2 bombers, a larger platform than previously used fighter jets, to target these underground facilities.
The strikes come amidst escalating tensions between the US and the Houthis, with the latter carrying out aerial attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in the conflict with Israel. The recent use of the B-2 stealth bomber demonstrates the US’s global strike capabilities in taking action against such threats.
The strikes in Yemen were part of efforts to degrade the Houthis’ capability to target vessels in the region. US Central Command has indicated that there were no civilian casualties in these precision strikes.
In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes have targeted Hezbollah positions, leading to casualties and further escalations in the region. The UN has warned of the risk of cholera spreading in conflict-hit areas, highlighting the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the wake of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
US officials have also been pressuring Israel to allow more aid into Gaza, amidst reports of a potential policy of starvation in the northern region. The international community continues to monitor and respond to the escalating conflicts in the region, seeking to address the humanitarian crisis and prevent further violence and casualties.
