Richard Allen is currently on trial for the double murder of teenage friends Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German in Delphi, Indiana, in February 2017. Prosecutors claim that Allen approached the girls armed with a gun, used fear to force them down a hill, and then slit their throats. When the girls’ bodies were found the next day, Libby was naked and covered in blood, while Abby was clothed in Libby’s clothes. The prosecution presented evidence including an unspent bullet found at the scene and alleged confessions made by Allen.
The defense argues that the investigation was mismanaged from the beginning and alleges that key evidence does not point to Allen as the perpetrator. They also plan to challenge the state’s timeline of events and suggest that the girls may have been abducted in another vehicle.
The trial brings renewed attention to the case, with jurors being selected from outside the local community. Testimonies from family members and friends painted a picture of the close bond between Abby and Libby, and the community’s efforts to find them when they went missing.
If found guilty, Allen could face up to 130 years in prison for the murders. The case has stirred interest on social media, with a video retrieved from Libby’s phone showing the suspect and audio of one of the girls saying “Gun.” Prosecutors claim that Allen confessed multiple times to the murders after his arrest.
The defense has withdrawn a request for jurors to visit the crime scene and was denied the opportunity to present an alternate theory of the killings linked to Odinism. The trial is expected to reveal more details and evidence related to the case.
