A recent NBC News poll found that voters are less likely to support candidates who deny the results of the 2020 election and those who support overturning Roe v. Wade. Instead, voters are more likely to back candidates who address high costs, with popular policies including expanding domestic oil and gas production, a $6,000 federal child tax credit, and taxing large corporations to control inflation. However, the proposal for tariffs as high as 20% on goods from all countries was less popular.
Across swing groups, voters are less likely to support candidates who deny election results, with only Trump’s voter base showing a positive response to this position. In a tight race, Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are tied among voters, with Harris leading in handling abortion, competency, and representing change. On immigration, voters support deploying the military to the border to stop illegal drugs and human trafficking, as well as increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants.
When it comes to abortion, a majority of voters support a federal law restoring a nationwide right to abortion, while opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade is high. Voters are split on candidates who believe the abortion issue should be left to each state. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 registered voters, highlights the importance of economic policies and the impact of election denialism and various policy proposals on voter preferences.
