Israeli forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in combat in Rafah, sparking hopes for an end to the Gaza war or Israel-Palestine conflict. However, analysts believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will use other pretexts to stay in power and further Israeli expansionist goals. Netanyahu faces charges of fraud and bribery, with fears of imprisonment, leading him to perpetuate conflict to control and maintain power.
Despite the death of Sinwar, the ongoing destruction and depopulation of Gaza are expected to continue. Israel’s historical obstruction of political solutions for Palestinian statehood has led to a perpetual conflict with no political resolutions. Netanyahu’s continued aggression against Gaza and Lebanon signifies a commitment to war and destruction, obstructing ceasefire attempts while instigating further violence.
Israel’s past assassinations of Palestinian leaders have only strengthened resistance movements like Hamas. Killing Sinwar may degrade Hamas operationally, but Palestinian resistance will persist due to underlying grievances from Israeli occupation. The destruction of Gaza will only fuel resistance and perpetuate the conflict.
Netanyahu’s pursuit of military responses over political solutions has locked Israel into a cycle of conflict with no end in sight. The death of Sinwar may embolden the far-right in Israel, demanding further killings and wars. Resistance to Israeli dispossession will continue as long as underlying grievances remain unaddressed, perpetuating the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
