IDF orders evacuation and launches strikes on Hezbollah banking systems

Israel’s military has launched more strikes on Lebanon, targeting banks and financial institutions supporting Hezbollah. Senior Israeli intelligence officials revealed that the main target of the strikes was the Hezbollah-run banking system, al-Qard al-Hassan. The IDF issued evacuation warnings for 24 areas, causing panic among residents in Beirut. The strikes came after US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concerns about civilian casualties in Lebanon.

The escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah over the war in Gaza turned into all-out war last month, with Israel launching a ground operation into Lebanon. Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets into Israel. Lebanon’s army, although respected, has been unable to impose its will on Hezbollah or defend the country from Israeli invasion.

The United States is investigating an unauthorized release of classified documents indicating Israel’s military assets were moved in response to Iran’s missile attack on October 1. Iran, a main financial backer of Hezbollah, also supports Hamas in Gaza.

The strikes on Lebanon have resulted in large-scale destruction and casualties, with health authorities reporting over 1,700 deaths in recent weeks. The ongoing conflict highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region and the challenges faced by civilian populations caught in the crossfire of these conflicts.
