Allied Irish Banks (AIB) is set to invest €40 million in upgrading its branch network across Ireland, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a strong physical presence in the country. The investment will see 35 branches refurbished, making it the largest number of branches in the country to undergo a renovation. The upgrades will focus on improving customer experience by introducing autism-friendly spaces, enhancing ATM services for visually impaired clients, and creating more private areas for customer consultations.
The refurbishments will be carried out in two phases, with locations including Dunmanway, Letterkenny, Tallaght, Clifden, and Dundrum Town Centre among others set to undergo upgrades. AIB aims to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for customers to discuss their finances and make important financial decisions in person.
The bank’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions is also highlighted through these upgrades, with a projected 10% decrease in operational emissions. AIB is working towards achieving net zero emissions across Scope 1 and 2 by the end of the decade and currently utilizes renewable electricity from Wexford solar farms.
Geraldine Casey, AIB’s managing director of retail banking, emphasized the importance of physical branches in providing face-to-face service for customers, while also acknowledging the value of digital banking options. The bank’s investment in branch upgrades reflects its long-term commitment to serving communities across Ireland and supporting the country’s National Payments Strategy.
