Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul, has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia and is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island. This form of cancer is a rare disease of the bone marrow. Weinstein’s health issues have included emergency heart surgery, hospitalization for Covid-19, and pneumonia. He is also facing legal battles with Manhattan prosecutors over new criminal charges, as well as an overturned conviction in New York that is being appealed. Despite the court’s decision to overturn his New York conviction, Weinstein was convicted of rape in Los Angeles and sentenced to 16 years in prison. His legal team is currently appealing this conviction. The news of Weinstein’s leukemia diagnosis comes at a time when he continues to face both health and legal challenges.
