Jessamine County, Ky. (WKYT) – The names of the victims killed in a tragic aircraft crash in Kentucky have been identified as 72-year-old Micheal D. Murphy and 72-year-old Connie J. Murphy, residents of Lexington and a husband and wife. The crash, involving a single-powered parachute aircraft, occurred on Sunday evening in a field near Ashgrove.
According to Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes, the couple was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders arrived shortly following a 911 call reporting the crash. Sheriff Kevin Grimes confirmed that Micheal Murphy, an experienced pilot with 20 years of flight experience, was operating the aircraft at the time of the incident.
A preliminary investigation is currently underway, with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) both notified of the crash. The NTSB is expected to initiate their investigation on Monday morning at the crash site.
Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice as the investigation progresses. The local authorities are still piecing together the events leading up to the tragic crash.
