A 24-year-old hiker was found dead along the rugged Marufo Vega Trail in Texas’ Big Bend National Park after rangers launched a search when they noticed a vehicle had been parked for several days. The trail is described as a 14-mile desert path with no shade or water, making it dangerous during warmer times of the year. The body was removed by helicopter, and despite it being late October, temperatures in the desert areas of the park have been nearly reaching 100 degrees each afternoon. The park staff expressed their sadness at the loss and extended their condolences to the hiker’s family and friends. The investigation into the hiker’s death is ongoing, and the park continues to warn visitors of the extreme conditions in the area.
