Kentucky trade exports saw a significant increase of 25 percent from $32 billion to $40 billion in the past year, according to Omar Ayyash, president and CEO of the World Trade Center in Lexington. Ayyash credited this growth to Kentucky’s strong manufacturing base, companies leading in global markets such as automotive, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals, as well as the strategic location of the state with UPS and DHL hubs. Additionally, State Trade Expansion Program grants, a skilled workforce, and trade missions led by the World Trade Center have contributed to the rise in exports.
The World Trade Center recently attended the GITEX technology trade show in Dubai with five Kentucky companies, and offers a three-day international trade certification program that has certified over 400 individuals in the state. However, the state Cabinet for Economic Development declined an interview with WEKU on the matter.
