A conservative group that organized a bourbon tasting tour for state lawmakers and lobbyists in Kentucky is facing criticism following a complaint posted anonymously on Reddit. The complaint alleged that attendees were rude, disruptive, and even vomited without apologizing or helping to clean up. Greater Carolina spokesman Jonathan Felts responded, stating that the account of bad behavior was exaggerated, attributing the incident to one individual feeling queasy due to motion sickness on the bus. He did not address the level of intoxication of the attendees. The event was a fundraising activity where donors had access to policymakers, but Felts declined to name them. Greater Carolina is a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization involved in political causes and not required to disclose donors. Although Felts dismissed the original poster as a “social media troll,” the poster’s history suggests they have experience in the bourbon hospitality industry and were present at the event. Felts was not present at the tour and declined to be interviewed for further details. The incident has raised questions about the behavior of attendees at such events and the responsibility of organizers to ensure proper conduct.
