Kentucky Wildcats Overcome Slow Start to Defeat Minnesota State
The Kentucky Wildcats had a slow start against Minnesota State, making just two of their first 13 three-point attempts. However, they caught fire towards the end of the first half, closing on a 21-3 run and eventually pulling away for a 98-67 victory.
Despite the 31-point win, Coach Mark Pope acknowledged that the game was weird due to Amari Williams leaving early with a knee injury. Pope was grateful for the challenges his team faced, including weird rotations and lineups, which forced the Wildcats to work through their issues on the court.
Kentucky only had six offensive rebounds, missed 24 threes, and allowed Minnesota State to have one more possession. Despite these shortcomings, the Wildcats had 28 assists to just eight turnovers and held Minnesota State to 39.1% shooting.
Pope emphasized the importance of the game in helping the team address its issues against a strong opponent. He praised his players for working through the challenges and adjusting to the circumstances.
In the end, despite the strange start, Kentucky managed to secure a convincing win over defending national champions Minnesota State. Pope expressed his pride in the team’s ability to overcome adversity and come out victorious.
