Ravi Menon has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the newly established Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The GFTN aims to harness technology and foster innovation through global partnerships to create more efficient, resilient, and inclusive financial ecosystems. Mr. Menon, who also serves as Singapore’s Ambassador for Climate Action, will lead the board alongside Deputy Chairmen Mr. Leong Sing Chiong and Mr. Neil Parekh.
The GFTN, which will be led by Mr. Sopnendu Mohanty as the Group Chief Executive Officer starting February 2025, aims to enhance global connectivity for impactful innovation in financial services and strengthen Singapore’s position as a global FinTech hub. It will have four strategic businesses including forums, advisory services, digital platforms, and an investment fund for technology start-ups.
The establishment of the GFTN builds on the success of Elevandi, a company set up by MAS to organize and globalize the Singapore FinTech Festival, the largest event of its kind in the world. The GFTN’s Board of Directors will be guided by an International Advisory Board comprising distinguished leaders committed to the public interest.
Mr. Menon expressed that GFTN aims to drive greater synergies within the global finance and technology communities for innovations in financial services that create positive economic value and social impact while strengthening Singapore’s role as a FinTech hub. Mr. Mohanty shared that GFTN is strategically positioned to address the evolving requirements of the global FinTech ecosystem through its diverse range of offerings.
