Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern about the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, saying it internationalizes the war. Reports indicate that around 10,000 North Korean troops are expected to reinforce Russian troops, raising concerns among Western leaders about the potential impact on relations in the Indo-Pacific region.
Zelenskyy has discussed the situation with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, with whom he agreed to increase cooperation and exchange intelligence to address Pyongyang’s involvement. The US is also ramping up its support for Ukraine, with plans to send additional weaponry, missiles, and armoured vehicles to help bolster defense capabilities.
Meanwhile, Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and Kharkiv, have continued, causing casualties and destruction. The Russian military is also making advances in the Donetsk region, claiming to have captured several towns and villages.
The presence of North Korean troops in the conflict, along with Russia’s continued aggression, has raised international alarm and led to discussions among various leaders on how to respond. The situation remains fluid, with concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict and the impact it could have on the wider region.
