The Kentucky Press Association Winter Convention banquet in Lexington saw the Kentucky Lantern reporters take home two awards. Liam Niemeyer placed second in the general news category, while Sarah Ladd tied for second in the best feature story category. John Cheves and Josh Wood were also recognized with the 2024 Jon Fleischaker Freedom of Information Awards for their impactful journalism. Additionally, the Richmond Register and the College Heights Herald were acknowledged with Fleischaker awards. The 2024 KPA journalists of the year were Ryan Richardson, Trevor Sherman, and Kristopher Fister. Dennis Brown, publisher of The Lewis County Herald, was named the incoming KPA president and received the Lewis Owens Community Service Award. The awards ceremony also marked the transition from outgoing president Jane Ashley Pace to Brown as the new president of the KPA. Overall, the night celebrated the excellence and dedication of journalists across Kentucky.
