The Northerner, the student media publication of Northern Kentucky University, received second place overall for student media General Excellence at the 2025 Kentucky Press Association Winter Convention. The staff of The Northerner received a total of 16 individual and staff awards, including Best Feature Story, Best Front Page, and more. The articles, photos, and videos submitted by The Northerner showcased their dedication to producing high-quality journalism, covering topics such as the hidden world of St. Anne and immigration in Northern Kentucky.
Despite facing challenges such as the retirement of their previous faculty adviser and the graduation of key staff members, The Northerner has continued to excel in producing award-winning content. The student journalists at The Northerner have proven their grit and determination, despite limited resources compared to other student media publications in Kentucky. The staff expressed their gratitude to their readers for their support and trust, and encouraged continued support as they continue to strive for excellence in journalism.
