Attorney General Suggests that Supreme Court May Intervene in Alien Enemies Act Case

Attorney General Pam Bondi criticized federal judges who have struck down or paused portions of President Donald Trump’s agenda in a recent Fox News interview. She specifically targeted judges like U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who is presiding over a case involving the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act. Bondi and Trump have both criticized judges for what they perceive as overreach and attempting to control the nation’s agenda.

Bondi defended the Alien Enemies Act deportations as necessary for public safety, describing the deportees as committing violent crimes. There are questions about whether those deported to El Salvador received due process through U.S. court or immigration hearings. Bondi also addressed Tesla arson attacks in the interview, calling the use of Molotov cocktails to set fire to Teslas and charging stations a potential weapon of mass destruction, and referred to the acts as domestic terrorism.

The Trump administration’s attacks on the judiciary have prompted Chief Justice John Roberts to affirm that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreements concerning judicial decisions, and that a normal appellate review process exists for that purpose. Bondi reiterated that the Supreme Court will ultimately hear these cases again and expressed determination to fight back against what she sees as federal district judges attempting to control the nation’s agenda.
