A five-alarm brush fire named the Keller Fire broke out in Oakland Hills, California, on Friday, burning two homes and forcing evacuation orders. The fire started in a home on Mountain Avenue and spread to a grove of Eucalyptus trees, growing to 15 acres. By Saturday morning, the fire was 50% contained, with crews working aggressively to fully extinguish it. Although firefighters were able to stop the forward progress of the fire, there was still much work to do to completely put it out. Two homes were impacted by the flames, but dozens of others were threatened but not damaged. Evacuation orders were initially issued for Campus Drive and Crystal Ridge Court and then expanded to surrounding areas. Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao urged those being evacuated to leave immediately, emphasizing that it was for their own safety. Delane Sims, whose home was damaged in the fire, expressed gratitude that her husband was able to escape unharmed after an explosion caused by the fire. Overall, the fire caused significant property damage but no injuries were reported.
